The Institution was previously St Joseph’s College (Autonomous). On 2 July 2022, the Government of Karnataka issued a notification conferring the status of a University on the College under the RUSA 2.0 Scheme of the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development, now Ministry of Education) in accordance with the St Joseph’s University Act, 2021. Thus, St Joseph’s College (Autonomous) was officially upgraded to St Joseph’s University. SJU was officially inaugurated on 27 September 2022.
 

No. Students of the undergraduate programmes except BVoc must study two languages, of which one shall be General English and the other shall be either an Indian Language or a Foreign language other than English. However, with special permission from the Vice-Chancellor, students can select Additional English as a Foreign Language. The University offers the following Language courses: Kannada, Hindi, Introductory Kannada, Tamil, Sanskrit, French and German. Applicants selecting Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit and French must have studied these languages at plus-two level. CBSE and ISC students who have not studied a second language at plus-two level and others who have not studied Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, French shall select German, Additional English or Introductory Kannada.

Students who have not studied Kannada before but are interested in learning Kannada can opt for Introductory Kannada, which has been designed keeping beginners in mind.

The Programme Fee is refundable as per the Admission Cancellation/Refund Policy of St Joseph’s University

No. However, they need to attend a separate screening if they fulfill all the eligibility criteria of the programme. 

NIOS students can upload their 10th standard marks in the designated section of the online application and then repeat the same in the 11th standard documents section. However, such students will have to provide necessary clarifications and supporting documents asked of them at the time of their interviews. 
 

Applicants who applied before the deadline of a particular programme and do not qualify for the first list of Tests/Interviews will be on the waiting list until the seats are available for the programme. It's important to note that being eligible for the subsequent lists does not guarantee admission to the programme. The selection process will still be based on the eligibility criteria and the availability of seats.

Provisions will be made for the candidate to take both tests on the same day. The dates and timings of St Joseph’s University Entrance Test (SJUET) are notified. After arriving at the venue of the test, the candidate will be informed as to which test he/she should complete first. After a break of half an hour, the candidate can take the next test.
