The Dept of Chemistry aims to achieve global standards of quality in maintaining academic excellence by being proactive and open to new opportunities and challenges in the frontiers of chemistry. The Dept of Biotechnology has a robust curriculum with well-designed practical sessions to complement theoretical concepts. The Dept of Botany promotes a culture of academics and research amongst its students.

Selected candidates must first update the following documents on their admission portal before the interview. The admitted students must submit the original documents at the Admin Office:

  • Class 10th Certificate (High School) and Marks Card
  • Class 11th Certificate and Marks Card
  • Class 12th Certificate (Senior Secondary School) and Marks Card
  • Transfer Certificate from last qualified institution
  • Migration Certificate except for the Karnataka State Board applicants 
  • Two passport-size photographs and one stamp-size photograph in formal dress with a white background
  • Two Photocopies of the Online Payment Receipt
  • Valid ID proof such as Aadhaar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID Card

Candidates belonging to any of these categories -PIO / OCI / SAARC / FOREIGN NATIONALS-must submit the following documents:

  • Photocopy of Passport and Visa Details
  • Copy of PIO / OCI card (whichever is applicable and available at the time of admission)
  • Certificate of Medical Fitness from an approved medical practitioner accredited by the Medical Council of India

  1. A candidate should have passed the Examination conducted by the Pre-University Board, Karnataka, or any other examination considered equivalent and should have studied Chemistry and Biology as core subjects.
  2. Students of undergraduate programmes must study two languages, out of which one shall be English and the other shall be either an Indian language or a foreign language other than English.
  • The University offers the following language courses: Introductory Kannada, Introductory French, Introductory Spanish, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, French, Additional English and German.
  • CBSE and ISC students and others who have not studied a second language at the plus two level are encouraged to opt for Introductory Kannada, Introductory French, Introductory Spanish or German. These are taught from the introductory level and require no prior acquaintance. Only those students who have not learnt these languages either in school or class XI or XII are eligible to enroll for these introductory level courses as second language.
  • Students need PUC/XII level competence to study Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and French courses.
  • Additional English is meant for students who have serious problems learning other languages.

Admission process: The applicants must fill in complete information on the online application form and upload all required certificates (whatever is available) and photos.

Selection process: The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. There are two rounds in the interview. Once the final interview is over, candidates have to pay their programme fee within 7 days and the mode of payment must be online. The dates of the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates and will be announced on the website.

All applicants are advised to take note that undergraduate programs in the Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences, which offer three optional subjects, will implement the 3+3+1 model at our University. This structure requires that students admitted to these programs study all three majors during the first four semesters. In the final two semesters, students will be required to select one of these optional subjects as their primary major. The allocation of the third major will be determined as per the university policy.

  •  To claim the Karnataka category fee, the candidates should have studied the last 7 years in Karnataka.[Not applicable for OCI (Overseas Citizens of India), PIO (Person of Indian Origin), and Foreign Nationals].
  • ** To all candidates except those who have passed the 12th examinations conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Board.

NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who:

  • Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
  • NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.

Important Dates

The admissions will be done weekly for the following courses starting rom 14th March 2024. The last date to apply is Thursday of that week. Shortlisted candidates will be candidates will be informed by email on Tuesday of the following week

Biotechnology Programme Objectives

  • The two major program of Biotechnology with a combination of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology gives students insights into basic and applied aspects of these disciplines, besides equipping them with hands-on laboratory skills and the ability to analyze information based on scientific evidence, while also instilling an awareness of scientific engagement in addressing relevant social and environmental issues that affect humankind.

Biotechnology Programme Outcomes

  • Students graduating from the Biotechnology program will gain an understanding of the cellular, genetic, biochemical, and molecular foundations of life, besides attaining domain knowledge of biostatistics, bioinformatics, and immunology as well as applied aspects of biotechnology including genetic engineering, medical, environmental, plant and animal biotechnology, and entrepreneurship.
  • Students will achieve competency in a variety of laboratory skills including techniques in cell and molecular biology, microbiology, genetic engineering and applied biotechnological aspects, through hands on practical experience and practice, while consistently observing good laboratory practice.
  • Students will gain exposure to the basics of research, and have an appreciation of research methodology, through faculty supervised term papers and research projects.
  • The program will enable students to hone their skills of analytical thinking and problem solving, through a series of curricular and research-based pedagogical interventions.
  • Students will also learn and build on proficiencies in science communication, teamwork and collaboration, enabled by regular innovative assignments and activities.
  • The program will foster an appreciation of environmental, health associated and sustainability related issues at local and global scales, and the role of scientific acumen and evidence-based engagement in understanding and addressing these problems.
