The MSc Biotechnology programme was initiated in the academic year 2021-22. The programme gives a comprehensive overview of foundational concepts in Biotechnology while also introducing students to recent advances in fields including, but not limited to, Genetic Engineering, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Mutiomics and Synthetic Biology, Industrial Biotechnology, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, and Next-Generation Therapeutics. Laboratory sessions for each paper are fashioned using research-based pedagogical approaches and equip students with the skill of employing a variety of scientific techniques and analytical tools to frame and answer a research question. The curriculum also gives students grounding in reading and analysing scientific literature, writing research proposals, science communication, and entrepreneurship in life sciences. The final semester is set aside for undertaking a research project or industry internship to allow students to experience the rigors of academic research/career in the life sciences industry.

Candidates belonging to any of these categories -PIO / OCI / SAARC / FOREIGN NATIONALS-must submit the following documents:

Copy of PIO / OCI card (whichever is applicable and available at the time of admission)
Certificate of Medical Fitness from an approved medical practitioner accredited by the Medical Council of India

Admission process: The applicants must fill in complete information on the online application form and upload all required certificates (whatever is available) and photos.
Selection process: The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. There are two rounds in the interview. Once the final interview is over, candidates have to pay their programme fee within 7 days and the mode of payment must be online. The dates of the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates and will be announced on the website.
The minimum marks required are 50% with 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates. The candidate must have completed BSc graduation with any Life Science/Biotechnology and BSc (Hons.) degree. Graduates in Biotechnology/ Biology/ Botany/ Microbiology/ Zoology/ Graduates in Agricultural Science, Dairy Sciences, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, Pharmacy, Engineering (Biotechnology), Medicine/Dental or Agricultural Engineering with the mentioned marks in the aggregate are eligible.
Postgraduate applicants will have to indicate their cognate subject while entering the marks. For example, if a student is applying for MSc Chemistry, then the cognate subject is Chemistry in his/her BSc programme. There are some programmes that do not have a cognate subject such as MSW. In such cases, please indicate one of the best core subjects as a cognate subject.
