The disciplines of Optional English and Journalism study the mechanics of the English language and have an emphasis on writing and speaking. Journalism prepares students to write, report, analyse and comment on significant news events and apply their writing skills specifically to careers with newspapers, journals and other news reporting outlets. In Optional English, through a wide-ranging exposure to literary texts, students will build a thoroughgoing acquaintance with general principles of Linguistics and a range of vocational competencies including writing, effective communication, critical-thinking skills and so on. The programme draws on the fact that Psychology is a particularly rich source of material for the media. Some of the most significant and high-profile news items are about Psychology. The discipline also underlies a vast amount of media content in newspapers, magazines and digital publications.

Selected candidates must first update the following documents on their admission portal before the interview. The admitted students must submit the original documents at the Admin Office:

  • Class 10th Certificate (High School) and Marks Card
  • Class 11th Certificate and Marks Card
  • Class 12th Certificate (Senior Secondary School) and Marks Card
  • Transfer Certificate from last qualified institution
  • Migration Certificate except for the Karnataka State Board applicants 
  • Two passport-size photographs and one stamp-size photograph in formal dress with a white background
  • Two Photocopies of the Online Payment Receipt
  • Valid ID proof such as Aadhaar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID Card

Candidates belonging to any of these categories -PIO / OCI / SAARC / FOREIGN NATIONALS-must submit the following documents:

  • Photocopy of Passport and Visa Details
  • Copy of PIO / OCI card (whichever is applicable and available at the time of admission)
  • Certificate of Medical Fitness from an approved medical practitioner accredited by the Medical Council of India

  1. Candidates should have completed 10+2 levels of schooling in arts/commerce/science or any equivalent stream from a recognized board.    
  2. Candidates are required to appear for an entrance examination designed to evaluate their aptitude for the course.   
  3. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an interview.   
  4. Students of undergraduate programmes must study two languages, out of which one shall be English and the other shall be either an Indian language or a foreign language other than English.
  • The University offers the following language courses: Introductory Kannada, Introductory French, Introductory Spanish, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, French, Additional English and German.
  • CBSE and ISC students and others who have not studied a second language at the plus two level are encouraged to opt for Introductory Kannada, Introductory French, Introductory Spanish or German. These are taught from the introductory level and require no prior acquaintance. Only those students who have not learnt these languages either in school or class XI or XII are eligible to enroll for these introductory level courses as second language.
  • Students need PUC/XII level competence to study Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and French courses.
  • Additional English is meant for students who have serious problems learning other languages.

Admission Process: The applicants must fill in complete information on the online application form and upload all required certificates (whatever is available) and photos.

Selection Process: The candidates have to appear for an entrance test. The details of the entrance test are detailed below. The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. There are two rounds in the interview. The dates of the entrance test and the subsequent interview will be announced on the website. Once the final interview is over, candidates have to pay their programme fee within 7 days and the mode of payment must be online.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Optional English, Journalism and Psychology

  • To be followed by two rounds of interviews:
  • Candidates must bring records/certificates for co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements
  • for a rigorous panel interview to be held on the day following the written test.
  • This will be followed by an interview with Fr. Vice-Chancellor/Official nominated by Fr.
  • Vice-Chancellor.
  • If you are travelling to Bangalore, please plan to spend at least two days in the city.

All applicants are advised to take note that undergraduate programs in the Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences, which offer three optional subjects, will implement the 3+3+1 model at our University. This structure requires that students admitted to these programs study all three majors during the first four semesters. In the final two semesters, students will be required to select one of these optional subjects as their primary major. The allocation of the third major will be determined as per the university policy.

  • ** To all candidates except those who have passed the 12th examinations conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Board.

NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who:

  • Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
  • NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.
