With an accomplished faculty both in teaching and research, the university is home to leading centres of excellence on campus. Here we try to create leaders for a better world, leaders deeply rooted in our philosophy “Fide et Labore” (a Latin phrase that means "Faith and Toil"), who commit themselves to excel in the fields they choose. We make every effort to be relevant, innovative, and creative. St Joseph’s continues to be a place of deep care for each person, especially those who feel most vulnerable. Join us and be part of this glorious enterprise!
Green campuses are a rarity in metropolitan cities, but SJU has ensured a green and eco-friendly campus, set in the heart of the city. All the blocks and corridors on campus are under CCTV surveillance keeping in mind the safety of the students.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9
SJU believes in the holistic development of students, and sports and games are integral elements of this training. The Institution has played a proactive and supportive role in encouraging sports through the years, producing many great sportspersons of whom many visited the campus as chief guests to flag off the sports day. The Institution is also sensitive to the special needs of sportspersons.
SJU has two of the oldest NCC Units of Bengaluru. The Air Wing and the Armoured Wing were started in 1954 and 1962 respectively. It enrols both boys (Senior Division) and girls (Senior Wing). The cadets are trained by senior NCC Officers who are also faculty members of the University. The enrolment in the NCC is always done keeping in mind the available vacancies. The cadets are trained in handling different weapons, and take part in flying, aero-modelling, firing, trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, cycling, Republic Day camp, and youth exchange programmes, apart from team building exercises. The cadets have received several commendations and awards for their outstanding performance. Many cadets complete the ‘C’ certificate and get a direct entry to join the Armed forces. Ever since 1948 when the National Cadet Corps was created, its purpose was to create dynamic, young, bright citizens who would play an important role in the country’s future. The motto of NCC is “UNITY AND DISCIPLINE”. The aim of NCC is to inculcate qualities of a true leader: positive thinking, right attitude, social concern and dignity. The uniform that a cadet wears ensures self-respect, discipline and obedience. Every cadet undergoes meticulous training in order to shape a cadet as a productive citizen of the nation. Being an NCC cadet is not just a task, but also an adventure of one’s lifetime. In search of the best of men and women, tests are conducted. Students are chosen after successful completion of these tests. According to the NCC timetable, it is mandatory to conduct 20 parades in the first year. The regular parades are conducted under the watchful eyes of ANO. The first few parades are focused on shaping a cadet. As the saying goes “A little pressure converts a lump of coal into diamonds”. Every cadet undergoes rigorous training programmes in order to be transformed into diamonds. Besides regular parades, theory classes are also held so that a cadet would be familiarised with aeroplanes, rifles and so on.
Bembala - St Joseph’s Outreach is a BJES community outreach programme designed for students of St Joseph’s Institutions initiated to realize the Jesuit vision of life and education.
SJU has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. There are two hostels for boys; one within the campus and another located six kilometres away from the campus. The girls' hostel is located about 300 metres away from the campus. The premises are under CCTV surveillance.
SJU is sensitive to the changing needs of the student body and the teaching faculty. The encouragement of holistic development in students is echoed in the infrastructural facilities provided by the Institution as well as its policies.
