The Department of Commerce at St Joseph's University provides an enabling environment to help its students stand out both academically and in shaping them into an overall balanced personality both in terms of the University's vision and today’s competitive environment. Since its commencement, the Department has continuously evolved offering diverse programmes in the field of business studies.
The Department aims at a holistic and integral formation of its students, fostering in them a spirit of academic excellence, character formation, and social concern, shaping them to become “men and women” for others. The Department strives to equip its students with the skills required to face the challenges of a dynamic business world.
.
What makes the School of Business at St Joseph’s University different from others? The world today is changing at such an accelerated rate and we as educators need to pause and reflect on this entire system of education. Are our institutions well equipped to prepare our students to face the challenges that the future holds? Questions such as these are factors that motivate us to go through a continuous process of reflection and hence we at the School of Business work at implementing a well-balanced curriculum to ensure that the students who walk into the portals of our University will not just love their student life but truly be prepared to face life’s challenges. Since its inception, the School has not only focused on the academic excellence of its students but also has nurtured their potential by providing holistic education.
In order to equip the students to assume diverse roles in the corporate world, the pedagogy adopted by the School comprises games, role plays, quizzes, industrial visits, and group exercises in addition to lectures, seminars, and case methods. The School also arranges interaction with industry/business executives, management consultants, leaders from NGOs and civil societies, and reputed academicians for the benefit of students to impart practical orientation. Students are evaluated through continuous internal components of class tests, presentations and assignments, and the end term exams. Students are trained to think creatively and to develop the right mindset to meet the challenges of the globalised business environment, through value-based education, interpersonal relations, and outreach programmes.
I welcome the aspiring youth to join the Josephite family and become agents of change to serve the ever-changing global needs in the field of commerce and society at large.
